So simple, and so profound. I read this book when a friend received it at a baby shower. My kids are bight and intelligent and doing very well in school, and yet I find myself wishing I'd had this knowledge when they were newborns. The author does a great job of laying out the case and the research behind her hypothesis, but then she takes it a step further and lays out practical, everyday tools for new parents to use to make teaching their children into a habit. This is not a book you will read and then put down and think "Good stuff in there." it's a day to day guide to giving your child a proven advantage in learning, and in life!
I love talking to my children, but I always felt inadequate at knowing what to talk about. Having a background in education, I knew that using baby talk was not the way to kick start my children's successes in life. It is great to have a book to back it up! I love that there are activities and subjects to guide my conversations with my children. It really does take the simple mundane things of life and make them profound when looking at them (and talking about them) through the eyes of a child. The great thing is it's not just for the little kids, the older kids get involved and excited too...especially when they can share it with their younger siblings and have interesting conversations with them.
I'm excited to implement these activities in my family. Such great ideas for a grandma to use as I interact with my grandchildren. I appreciate the supportive facts given. The logic behind this book is simply beautiful. I feel like the word list at the back of the book is a bonus! Can't wait to see what the next book offers. What a bargain.
Wow! What I wouldn't have given to have this book and these great ideas when my kids were young. As you begin to read this book you quickly understand how important and EASY it is to give your babies/toddlers a jump start on their education, and all by simply talking with them. I can't wait until I have grandkids and can try out these wonderful ideas and concepts with them!

Who knew something so simple would have such a huge impact. After reading this and thinking about it, it makes so much sense. I love all the topics for conversation and the activities to go along with them!! I would struggle with knowing what to talk about with ones so young but it's all taken care of in this book! They give words related to the main word and tell you where to access free word lists and activities to go along with them. The activities are easy and fun! I highly recommend this book to anyone with or expecting little ones!!
This is a great book. It's very educational. It provides parents with ideas on what activities they can do with their children and it increases your child's vocabulary amount. What I personally love about this book the most is that it made me realize how important it is to teach my children about things that I myself have no interest in and may not know much about. This book has made me think outside the box (my comfort zone) and has forced me to be more creative.
Like most mom's, I want to give my children the best... so I purchased this book after a friend recommended it. While I've read other books with great concepts (which I inevitably forget) this book takes it a step further by providing short, simple activities for me to do with my baby, helping me immediately implement the concepts and research in the book! As a new (and often tired) mother, I especially appreciate this format and the fact that it's all laid out for me. I follow the activities, and feel like a rock-star mom! I love the quality time, and so does my baby.
After reading the research in this book, I value words differently. I used to simply "talk" to my baby. Now I interact with intent. Highly recommended - I plan to buy a few of these books as gifts for my expecting friends.
